Melinda Irwin
Melinda L. Irwin, PhD, MPH, Professor of Epidemiology in the Yale School of Public Health, Deputy Director of Public Health for the Yale Center for Clinical Investigation (YCCI), Associate Director for Population Sciences in the Yale Cancer Center, and co-leader of Cancer Prevention and Control Research Program within the Yale Cancer Center, is a prominent leader in the field of behavioral lifestyle factors and cancer risk and mortality. Her research over the past 15 years has focused on randomized trials of weight loss and exercise on biological markers, medication adherence, treatment side effects and quality of life in cancer survivors. For the past 10 years, Dr. Irwin has been the Director of Training and Education on the NCI-Transdisciplinary Research on Energetics and Cancer (TREC) Initiative. She has received funding from the NIH, ACS and other foundations and serves on various national advisory committees to develop consensus statements on physical activity, diet, weight and cancer prevention and control.
