Biography Susan Hanson
Susan Hanson is Senior Manager, Service Development and Clinical Practice, Cancer Australia. Cancer Australia is Australia’s leading national cancer control agency established to reduce the impact of cancer on all Australians.
During her 10 years working in cancer care and control Susan has been responsible for establishing the national consumer program for Cancer Australia and more recently promoting best practice cancer care and consumer engagement within Australia and internationally.
Susan has extensive experience in health including over twenty years in senior leadership roles in consumer engagement in cancer control, state-wide palliative care, acute care, and regional community and rural health services. Susan’s previous experience was as a clinical nurse and midwife in urban and rural Tasmania and internationally in South Africa and the United Kingdom.
Susan is committed to improving health outcomes and quality of life experiences for people affected by cancer, particularly people whose outcomes are poorer. She sees consumer engagement and person centred care as key to this goal.
Susan holds a Training Certificate of Emotional Intelligence through Yale University, USA; Master of Public Policy; Post Graduate of Professional Business Management; Bachelor of Applied Science in Nursing; and certificates in nursing and midwifery.
