Maira Kentwell

Currently works as Senior Genetic Counsellor at the newly combined Peter MacCallum and Royal Melbourne Hospital Familial Cancer Centre in Parkville Melbourne, and the Adult Genetics Service at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. Worked as a clinical genetic counsellor for nearly 15 years in Sydney and Melbourne. The management and service delivery component of my role has focused on new models of service delivery in cancer genetics, and novel approaches to ongoing training and education of genetic counsellors including a peer based approach to supervision and work on 'no bullshit therapy' in genetic counselling. My clinical area of work over the past 2 years has focused on developing mainstreaming of genetic counselling for ovarian cancer patients for BRCA1 and BRCA2 genetic testing, and actively involved in developing mainstreaming locally as well as nationally through the COSA familial cancer centre mainstreaming group.
