Susan Fraser

After 14 years practising as a solo GP in Cairns, Far North Queensland Dr Susan Fraser trained as a Breast Physician at Wesley Breast Clinic in 1989. Since then she has practised full time as a Breast Physician. She was fortunate to be part of a multidisciplinary group of clinicians who set up a private diagnostic breast clinic in Cairns in 1993. In 1994 this clinic was awarded the contract to do the screening for BreastScreen Queensland in the region. During the ensuing period up until 2008 Dr Fraser was Director of Cairns Breast Clinic and BreastScreen Cairns. Over the past 8 years she has worked at Sydney Breast Clinic and on the Gold Coast for private breast surgeon Dr Daniel de Viana whilst maintaining some involvement in the BreastScreen program and reading mammograms for the program. Dr Fraser is Immediate Past President of the Australasian Society of Breast Physicians (ASBP) and past Executive member of the Australasian Society of Breast Diseases (ASBC). Dr Fraser enjoys teaching and holds a part time position at Cairns Public Hospital in breast outpatients. Special interests include lifestyle factors in development of breast cancer and survivorship. Dr Fraser lives in Cairns with her husband and has two children and spends more time now in the UK with her two grandsons.
